Tips for maintaining the integrity of your security system
There are a number of actions to help create a secure working environment and maintain the integrity of your security system:
Keep all valuables in a safe place at night. A safe is ideal.
Identify potential incidents that could have an impact on your business.
Walk around your premises and identify ways a potential intruder could break in.
Provide your staff with training in basic security principles such as closing window blinds at night and locking cabinets.
Service your security system at regular intervals in accordance with Australian Standards.
2201.1-1986 Clause 9.2.1.1 General which states "Routine maintenance visits to alarm premises shall be made by an authorized representative of the alarm company at a minimum of twice per year, with no more than seven (7) months between visits."
Make sure your staff understand how your alarm system works, how to bypass faulty points and the impact of a bypass.
Install an effective access control system on your premises and do not rely solely on keys as they can be duplicated.
Make sure your video surveillance system is operating in optimum conditions as it can be useful against liability claims providing a potential source of evidence.
If you are relocating, make sure your security system is maintained during your relocation.
